We have a number of sets of single and multichannel manual pipettes in a full range of sizes. We also use electronic stripettors for larger volumes. Using professional precision equipment helps young people experience science in a truly industrial context

Our agarose gel elecrophoresis equipment is used to separate DNA molecules of different sizes on a number of our courses. We visualise DNA using our Gel imager or transilluminater aparatus and can quantify it using our Nanodrop spectrophotometer

Our protein gel elecrophoresis equipment is used to separate protein molecules of different sizes on a number of our courses. The same tanks are used to transfer molecules onto membranes for western blotting.  We have a shaking incubator for growing bacterial cultures to extract protein from and a static oven for incubating microbial plates. We can pellet bacterial cultures using our range of centrifuges - we have large Sorvall bench top centrifuge and a number of microfuges and picofuges.

We have 4 modern PCR machines which allow A-Level students to really grasp the concept of the polymerase chain reaction in copying DNA and explore the affect that changing experimental parameters has

In addition to these featured items, our laboratory is equipped with a wide array of waterbaths, hotblocks, magnetic stirers and hotplates, vortexes and plate shakers.  We also have an autoclave, a microwave, balances of varying precision, a microsope, a pH meter and a plate reader.  We supply all course attendees with appropriate levels of Personal Protective Equipment, including lab coats and safety spectacles.
